Railroad Square gets a new addition

Earth, Thread & Fire, a retail art and craft space, featuring a Hatter and Two Potters are prepared for its grand opening at Railroad Square’s First Friday event.

The store is co-owned by Jennifer Haskins who is an art educator, and the only hatter. The other two co-owners, Elizabeth Fravel and Jana Kiwpala, are both potters with their own unique ceramic focuses.

“I fell in love with Railroad Square before I even moved here and was determined to become part of it,” Haskins said.

She added that she was attracted to the area and has moved from North Carolina, where she was an art teacher at a junior high school.

The inspiration for the name of the store came from all of the artists’ collaborative styles.

“The clay that the potters work with represent earth and the fire that it takes to mold it, and the thread is associated with the material needed to design the hats,” she said.

The hat artist has been designing hats for a year and a half. She has always been intrigued with sewing she has worked on clothes along with many other basics, yet when she began to work with hats she enjoyed it the most.

“I’ve always been interested, but I haven’t always focused on it.”

With her newfound focus on artsy hats she finds that she is passionate about hat designing.

“I just fell in love with the process, and the creativity that you can have with the designs, embellishments, and accessories that you can put on them.”

Along with the awareness that the owners want to create for their up and coming store, they want to incorporate their new Railroad Square neighbors as well.

“Getting a couple Growlers from Proof Brewery, and cupcakes from Swirlz to try and meet the neighbors and support them to have our party.”

The grand opening of Earth, Thread & Fire is from 4-9 p.m. For more information visit https://www.facebook.com/EarthThreadandFire/
