Shady Grove Baptist Church located at 10497 Centerville road was tagged in several locations with graffiti Sunday night.

“KKK” was spray painted on the sign of the church. Both buildings of the church, along with the sidewalk, read: “Devil is real (expletive).”

Almost a year ago several Wakulla County churches were vandalized with KKK graffiti. In recent months KKK flyers were found in the Wakulla and Lowndes County area.

Leon County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Grady Jordan told WCTV this type of vandalism isn’t taken lightly and they are doing all they can to find more information.

“Vandalism of that order is certainly significant and taken very seriously, so we are going to look into that and see what else we can find out,” Jordan said.

Sheriff’s deputies alerted Elder Joe N. Malone, pastor of Shady Grove, about the vandalism but he didn’t see it until Monday morning.

Elder Jimmy Wilson, assistant pastor of Shady Grove, saw the vandalism while he was riding past the church on his way to work. Wilson took pictures of the vandalism and posted on Facebook.

“A message sent and a message received! I took photos of the vandalism at my church, Shady Grove #2 in Tallahassee Florida … It is imperative that people hear the good news about the finished work of Jesus on the cross and how he gave his life that sinful folks like us may have a right to the tree of life. God taught me to love those who do hurtful things. Therefore, heavenly Father forgive them for they know not what they do. Please do not allow this senseless act to make you bitter at those who vandalized our church. Love covers a multitude of sins,” Wilson’s post said.

This case is still under investigation by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.
