Florida A&M University [FAMU] Head Football Coach Alex Wood led a press conference today in the Al Lawson Gymnasium.

Wood opened the press conference explaining how improvements were made within certain areas of the football team even though they were defeated by the Samford University Bulldogs last Saturday, by the score of 58-21.

Throughout the press conference, Wood spoke highly about the team’s determination and willingness to win.

“We know more about our team now than we did a month ago obviously, and we know where we need to go and what we need to work on,” said Wood. “We are going to continue to do that until we do accomplish the goal of getting that first win.”

Sophomore running back Gerald Hearns and senior linebacker Kashawn Butler both spoke about the experience of being on a team in which motivation is often used to support one another.

“We knew that we had to get back to that field and we had to do an alignment assignment and execute,” Butler said. “ We prepare ourselves and keep preparing until we can get it. It’s all about the repetition so we will display that Thursday night.”

Hearns ran a one yard touchdown with 48 seconds left in the first quarter, taking the lead for the Rattlers [14-10], even though he was pulled from the game in the second half due to an injury. He still continued to speak highly about his team and his expectations for the next game.

“It has been a great opportunity working with my teammates and the new coaching staff,” Hearns said. “I think it’s our jobs as leaders to keep the team motivated when we are down or up just to stay focused and know that we can finish throughout four quarters.”

Wood made it clear that he was pleased with his team for continuing to compete in the game against the Bulldogs, regardless of what the scoreboard stated.

Make sure to catch the Rattlers as they face off against the South Carolina State Bulldogs Thursday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPNU or on 96.1 FM Tallahassee radio.
