FAMU's new head football coach, Alex Wood, is confident that this season is an opportunity for growth as he stated in today’s Press Conference.

This upcoming Saturday will mark the official season opener and start of Alex Wood’s new regime. Coach Wood is at ease about the teams gameplan heading into the match up with the University of South Florida Bulls.

“In terms of this Saturday, I’m confident that the team knows what we want to get done,” said Wood. “We have had a game plan about these guys since June.”

Junior defensive end, Calvin Darville spoke confidently about the upcoming season.

“I feel good about it,” said Darville. “We got a new coach and he is definitely different from what we had last year.”

Darville expressed how Wood is strict and organized and how those qualities bring something new to the football team.

Wood stressed the importance of game preparation.

“We breakdown film, come up with a preliminary plan and make sure that we’re fundamentally sound," said Wood. “We don’t let that kind of time just sit. You better be working on your opponent because they’re probably working on you.”

Starting Redshirt junior quarterback, Carson Royal, shared how anxious the team is about this upcoming season.

“I’m just ready mentally, physically and really just ready to get out there and play,” said Royal. “I’m here to do the job and I plan to do that.”

Royal added that the confidence he has in his teammates helps him improve his skills.

“What helps me is the talent I have around me. Those guys make me better everyday,” said Royal.

He feels very comfortable playing against the University of South Florida (USF) on September 5.
