University working toward sustainability

Glaciers are melting, water is scarce, tropical diseases are spreading and all of it is our fault.
By leaving the lights on, failing to recycle and leaving the water running we are contributing to the warming of our earth.
People don't think that this directly affects us, but walking in 70-degree weather in the middle of January is hard to ignore.
We have two choices - either change our lifestyles and inform others, or stay complacent until the Earth forces us to deal with this issue.
Florida A&M University students and faculty are trying to inform the masses.
All this week, our University will host "Focus the Nation." LaRae Donnellan, Ph.D., co-chair of the FAMU Green Coalition and the "Focus the Nation" planning committee, said this is the biggest environmental awareness campaign in Tallahassee.
Aside from workshops and notable public figures, this week's event promises free food, games and the chance for students to win $5,000.
Tallahassee has realized the importance in facing global warming head on, and our school was chosen to convey that message. It is important that FAMU becomes part of something positive.
If we continue on our current path of destruction, our children may be the ones complaining about the horrible decision we made by failing to preserve our Earth.
