Time to spice up date night

Tallahassee is often viewed as limited when it comes to finding new places to go. This can make it difficult to find original spots to take a significant other, but there are definitely things out there.

If the outdoors is appealing for a date, Florida State University’s Rez Lakefront Park is a great spot to be active. Located in the Lake Bradford area, the Rez offers plenty of fun and affordable activities such as kayaking, volleyball and rock climbing. This is a great chance to step away from devices and spend quality time with a partner. Grab some snacks, a speaker and a blanket and enjoy the scenery.

Nature is nice for some, but for those who prefer indoor, hands-on dates, The Southern Pines is a great option. They offer candle making deals for couples and groups. There are numerous essential oils to smell so people can create their perfect blend.

David Lareau, owner of The Southern Pines, says about 80% of people that come in to make candles are couples.

“It’s a unique experience because you’re able to come in and actually make something you’re going to use,” Lareau said. “It’s something specific to you because scents are really personal.”

Remember to preserve the candle glass after use and they will remake the candle at a discount. This ensures that customers can continuously enjoy their signature candle scents. Slots for the candle bar can be booked at southernpinesgoods.com.

Another idea is an event marked by art and culture, great for couples with creative interests. First Fridays located at Railroad Square is an event that takes place each first Friday of the month.

Close to Florida A&M University’s campus, plenty of shops and art spaces are open for viewing. Live music, shopping, casual food options and art are all combined into this one experience.

Spaces like The Plant often host events, and 621 Gallery regularly updates their installations and collections.

Cirsten Jones, a graduating broadcast journalism student, considers First Fridays a beautiful experience and a cool spot to mingle whether visiting as a duo or solo.

“My favorite date experience would definitely be handed over to First Fridays in Tallahassee due to the fact that art brings me immense joy,” Jones said. “Just being able to spark authentic artistic conversations with my significant other always brightens my spirit.”

Since this happens once every month, it can become a nice tradition to make regular visits with a partner.

On the pricier side and great for special occasions such as Valentine’s Day and anniversaries, Tallahassee Date Night is a black-owned business ready to serve couples in hotels and even in their own living room.

Demetrius Murray, known as Chef Romance, sets up a film of the couples’ choice and serves as a personal chef. This romantic experience features flowers, candles, a red carpet and more.

Some of these ideas can even create extended date experiences. It is never a bad idea to dedicate time to trying something new.
