Review: Canopy Road Cafe worth the money

Canopy Road Café has four locations in Tallahassee and several others throughout the state of Florida. Best known for their breakfast/brunch and cozy environment, they offer breakfast, brunch and lunch.

I visited their eatery on Apalachee Parkway, where I was greeted by the smell of fresh pancakes, a few sounds of laughter from guests dining outside, and a vibrant hostess. Inside almost all signs are handwritten in chalk, along with an elongated breakfast bar and family size dining tables. Outside seating is covered and within a gated enclosure. If you would like to eat on-the-go or elsewhere, you can carry out or use their partnering delivery service.

They have made a few accommodations since the onset of COVID, separating the tables to abide by the CDC’s six-foot regulations and require that a mask be worn upon entering their establishment, and no seats available at the breakfast bar.

Canopy Road has an extensive menu from almost any breakfast meal you can think of, including fruit, to brunch and lunch items. They also provide options for not only meat lovers, but for vegetarians as well. With many breakfast options made custom to order, you can choose different types of bread, meat, and cheese. I tried the breakfast sandwich on a buttery croissant, with cheddar cheese and sliced turkey; it came with hash browns and a fluffy cinnamon roll topped with cinnamon and icing. The sandwich was large and filling; in fact, I did not finish the entire thing. However, the hash browns were not too satisfying. They were oily and chewy. But the cinnamon roll was beyond delicious, very large, enough to share between two, and had the perfect amount of icing on top and dripping down the sides.

Canopy Road Café is not the cheapest spot in town but it is definitely worth the money considering the serving size. My meal cost $15. Prices range from about $5, for fruit and small items, to about $12 leaning more toward lunch items. Either way you will not walk away hungry but feeling full and satisfied.

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting town or to anyone who already lives in the area. One thing to keep in mind is, they are not open all day. Hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m., which gives plenty of time for you and a friend to stop by and enjoy a meal.
