Due to financial barriers the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University’s Athletic Department has faced, renovations to the facilities were not feasible. With a special gift commitment by The Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. of $125,000 to FAMU Athletics, this will catalyze the department to improve in the future as well as ignite a challenge for all of the Fraternities and Sororities to make a contribution to FAMU’s athletic department

This is exciting news for the program because FAMU’s previous renovations happened in 1983, almost four decades ago.

Dock Luckie III, senior civil engineering student at FAMU, who is also an Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. on campus, realizes how much this donation means.

“Seeing the large donation that was given means a lot and I know it will go a long way,” Luckie said. “Coming in as a freshman when I was on the football team, we did not necessarily have much, as the funding was so scarce. I know that these donations mean a lot to the program and myself. Just seeing all the changes that have happened since the new athletic director has come in, I see it has a push in the right direction. I look forward to seeing what FAMU holds in the future.”

The “All In” campaign was founded by the Rattler Athletic fund in order to renovate and upgrade the Field House. This campaign is supported by past Beta Alpha initiatives, as they wanted to give back to the university and make an impact on FAMU Athletics.

Jade Fryer, Chapter President of the Real Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Inc., was thrilled about the donation.

Fryer says that this campaign closely reflects the service their sorority enjoys participating in.

“We are blessed for this opportunity, as our name will be displayed in the weight room,” she said.

Chapter Advisor for The Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, Mr. Selvin Cobb, has strong innovative ideas concerning donations to the All In Foundation.

“It is always great to see organizations in the Divine Nine gather together for a great cause,” Cobb said. “What the Beta Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta did was simply amazing and has inspired The Alpha Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc. to donate to FAMU Athletics as well. Alpha Xi has come together to donate $20,000 to the All In foundation, spotlighting one female and male student athlete. We are also in the process of facilitating a virtual fundraising Kappa Luau event that will raise money for FAMU athletics.”
