Georgia Dawkins is a producer, author, entrepreneur, and a 2010 graduate of FAMU’s School of Journalism & Graphic Communication.

Dawkins isn’t one to flaunt her accolades. Instead, the FAMU alumna chooses to lead by example.

On April 1, 2016, Dawkins was laid off from her job in Tampa. She describes it as one of the most painful experiences of her life. After the incident, she made a promise to herself never to be dependent on one source of income.

Despite being let go she continued to pursue a career in media. Dawkins decided to venture out on her own.

In September 2017, a daily roundtable talk show targeting African American women called, “Sister Circle” was launched. Dawkins was the segment producer who helped develop the talk show.

“To be able to show my personality and showcase all of my experiences that I have on a daily basis is something that I’ve dreamed of. Especially to do it with a Rattler by my side has been refreshing and I’m grateful to be able to do it with someone like Georgia,” the show’s host Rashan Alisays, said.

After resigning from her position as the segment producer of “Sister Circle” in 2018, Dawkins went on to write her first book, “Everybody Knows: The Power of Being in Position.” It’s about hope, redemption and spirituality.

“I always knew I was supposed to write a book, and it was very clear in that season of my life what I was supposed to write about. Not only regarding my journey in my media career but my journey spiritually and mentally,” Dawkins said.

Georgia Dawkins Media Company launched in 2018. “I wanted something I can be proud of, entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart,” she said. “The hardest thing I ever did is run my own company.”

“Georgia is very smart and resourceful, she’s a very hard worker, she’s loyal, she reminded me of myself when I was her age,” said Jennifer Wiggins a FAMU alumna and one of Dawkins’ mentors.

Dawkins launched “The Purpose Producer” in December. it is an international podcast created as a result of Dawkins’ first book. “A Purpose Producer” is someone who is using their gift to help others birth their dreams.

“My purpose is to create opportunities,” Dawkins said. The podcast created a platform for other stories about purpose, stories about people using their gifts to help others.

Dawkins is building a media empire. In five years, she sees herself having shows on major networks or possibly having her own network, but her ultimate goal is to be the vice president of programming at a major network, so she can put others in a position to realize their purpose.
