Coming into the year 2020, the Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference (MEAC) will be celebrating its 50th anniversary.  To kick off a celebratory year, MEAC commissioner Dr. Dennis E. Thomas has decided to involve students in a scholarship competition of $1500 to challenge them in creating a slogan for their 50th year.

The North Carolina A&T men’s indoor track & field team took home a National Title with a top 10 ranking from the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).  They now hold the ninth spot nationally where they excelled in the 400 meters, 4×400 meters, and the high jump.  The NCAT men put on a dazzling display in the 4×400 meter relay team, and recorded a time of 3:06:06. Doing so earned them the number one spot in the nation. This team was led by seniors Akeem Sirleaf, Trevor Stewart, Kemarni Mighty, and freshman Randolph Ross.

Over the weekend, Bethune Cookman’s women’s basketball team recorded an 11-point victory over North Carolina A&T. Amaya Scott notched a team high 23 points while matching her career-high in field goals and shooting an impressive 11-18 from the field.

The Lady Wildcats are 2nd in the conference with an overall record of 6-1. Norfolk State comes in at the top of the conference with a record of 6-0. Morgan State stands at 3rd at 6-2.

Norfolk State is taking the MEAC by storm as their men and women’s basketball teams sit atop their respective sides of the conference.  The Spartans were triumphant yesterday as they faced off against the Florida A&M Rattlers. Said to have had one of ,the best shooting nights as a Division 1 program. The Spartans victory was sparked by senior guard Jermaine Bishop who is currently averaging north of 14 points per game.

Both the men’s and women’s teams hold a 6-0 record at the top of the conference with NCAT trailing by one game at 6-1.  North Carolina Central currently holds a record of 4-2 which is good enough for third in the conference.

The Norfolk State Spartans continue to have the Rattlers number as both the men’s and women’s basketball teams suffered defeats at Joseph G. Echolls Hall.  The Lady Rattlers fell by eight with a final score of 59-51.

This now leaves the Lady Rattlers at ninth in the division with a 4-15 overall record and a 2-6 conference record. The men’s basketball team at Florida A&M University fell short to Norfolk State as well with a final score of 95-67.

This now leaves them at the seventh spot in the standings with a 6-13 overall record and a .500 conference record of 4-4.

Since 1970 the MEAC conference has been a staple of excellence in college athletics. With the spring seasons starting to heat up, this is sure to be a semester of athletics that you don’t want to miss.
