DJs, chefs and caterers with Luxe Event came together Sunday morning to orchestrate “The Wind Down” brunch to pamper fellow Rattler alumni after a long weekend of repping their favorite HBCU.

Coordinator and co-owner of Luxe Event, Tangy Williams, assembled the upscale brunch for those who wanted to unwind and socialize with fine dining. The brunch featured a live band, bottomless mimosas, upscale attire, and an unending brunch.

“I went to FAMU, so homecoming is kinda personal and it just has a nice brunch vibe for alumni from out of town. We did it last year so last year was our first year,” Williams said.

Luxe Event is a black-owned business that offers a variety of accommodations for weddings, parties and small lunches such as event planning, catering services and innovations and decor.

The business is known for PoshStems, EP Luxe Designs and Luxe Catering, which offers a personal or catering chef. It is also one of Tallahassee’s most recent and popular event venues.

“We own this space and collectively we own EP Luxe which is rentals for tables, cloths, vases, and more, which is all of the stuff you see here. Then there’s PoshStems, which is a floral company and then my partner Sonya does the catering for our catering services,” Williams said.

“We kind of all just pitched in and put it together.”

The brunch offered a lineup of delicious foods for guests. The unlimited brunch buffet included, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, fresh seafood, sausage, bacon, eggs and more; all deliciously prepared by Chef Sonya of Luxe Personal Chef & Catering.

“For the brunch, we just did your hometown soul favorites like shrimp and grits and other breakfast foods and of course a bar with mimosas and bellini’s and things like that,” Williams added.

Along with the endless brunch buffet, there was a luxury dessert bar that left guests with a sweet tooth to die for.

The bar was covered with gourmet strawberries, red velvet and chocolate cake.

“The food was amazing. The flavor was really good. They had a good variety, especially for me. I’m not a big breakfast person, so they had a good variety for someone who is not an egg, bacon potatoes kind of person,” Robin Battle said.

While eating, guests were able to enjoy some live entertainment. A lineup of artists were playing Anthony Hamilton, Beyoncé, and Fantasia. Live entertainment and music were performed by Drummer On The Move and DJ BO Weezy.

To attend, general admission was $15 while the purchase of a $35 to $45 ticket gave guests the option to enjoy both the brunch special and drinks.

The event required attendees to wear seersuckers, poloss, sundresses, and no plain T-shirts or flip-flops. Guests had to be 21 or older to attend.

“This was an event I definitely enjoyed with my friends. It was relaxing, the music was soulful, the drinks were great. I had a great time,” Danielle Butler said.

As more and more people poured into the venue, more and more left with smiles on their faces and bellies full. Thanks to Luxe Event, alums were able to cap off their homecoming weekend with a bang.

Williams confirmed that you can look forward to more brunches to come after every FAMU homecoming.

“This is going to be a stable event. Every homecoming you’re gonna turn up all week and then wind down with us on Sunday.”

Shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles and hand-held favorites were stretched out on tables for guests to enjoy.
