From girlfriends to curl friends, Tracee Ellis Ross has hopped on the natural hair-care train.  The “Black-ish” star launched her hair care line Pattern Beauty in early September.

Ross announced her new business venture on Instagram a few weeks ago by posting a nude photo of her along with the words, “Sometimes it’s just all about hair.”

Pattern Beauty includes three conditioners, a hydration shampoo, leave-in conditioner, and a hair serum that promotes hair growth.

According to an independent study research firm Mintel, in 2018 black consumers accounted for one out of five total hair-care dollars spent. It also says in the research study that mainstream companies and retailers rely on black consumers to drive growth as they do in any industry, not just natural hair.

Looking at this research it seems like Ross’ new business venture was the right move.

The products are said to be useful for curly, coily and tight textured hair. The brand is meant to empower naturals of all hair types to embrace their coils and kinks.

“Pattern Beauty is the result of 20 years of dreaming, 10 years in the making and two years of working with chemists. I’m so excited to share this with y’all,” she shared with fans on Instagram.

Ross says that the products are for naturals who need more than just a quarter-size of product. The products aim to fulfill needs not met by other hair products.

Ivy Gray, a junior public relations student at FAMU, has a lot to say about the new hair care line, even though it is not sold locally yet.

“Even though I can’t get the products in stores yet, when and if she decides to sell the products locally I think that’d be pretty cool,” Gray said.

“She doesn’t give in to the Eurocentric ideals that society deems standard now. I like that she is using her platform to make natural hair more normal in a sense,” ImpressionsofBeauty curl friend Morgan Pinnock said.

“I would purchase her products definitely. It is a little expensive but it is something I would invest in because my natural hair is very important and I would hope these products allow me to achieve the look that I am going for on any given day.” Pinnock added.
