North Carolina A&T continues to make headlines in the world of MEAC sports. This past week NC A&T’s own Kayla White made history.

White, a senior from Miami, FL. ran the fastest 200-meter time of the year. With a time of 22.82,  White was able to blow away the second fastest time of 23.07 by Tamara Clark from Alabama. NC A&T head coach Duane Ross unsurprisingly described her as special and hungry to be the best.

With men’s and women’s basketball being a little past the halfway mark, this is the time we start to see the contenders for the title. Heading into this week, Norfolk still sits in first place on the men’s standings.

However, Bethune-Cookman handed Norfolk their first conference loss of the season. B-CU led by a 20-point, 15 rebound double-double performance by Cletrell Pope and five double-figure performances from Wildcats, it propelled them over the No. 1 ranked Spartans.

NC A&T women still remain unbeaten heading into the last month of the season. The Aggies continued their 10-game win streak with a dominating 72-49 victory over Delaware State.

Despite Norfolk being the early favorites for the men and women, the emergence of Maryland Eastern Shore as a contender has opened some eyes. Although they lost their last contest to NCAT in a disappointing  58-70 blowout, Maryland Eastern Shore still needs to be recognized across the conference as a threat as they now sit in second with a record of 14-11.

MEAC softball officially began this past weekend with all 12 schools in action. With it being early in the season and conference play not beginning for some time, it is difficult to gauge the talented teams in the conference. Early favorites Florida A&M started the season at the 2019 Sand Dollar Softball Classic.

The Rattlers came out to play but could not come up with a win at the tournament. The Rattlers started the season 0-5 but do not count them out for another run at the MEAC Championship.

Also, as the MEAC released their 2019 preseason rankings as they gear up for the 2019 Baseball season. The 2019 baseball season begins this upcoming week and NCAT, the reigning champion are still the favorites, especially in the southern division. Coppin State accumulated 66 votes and are the favorites for the Northern Division.

This season for baseball is set to be highly competitive as several teams are gearing up to make some noise in the conference. NCAT wants to continue its success after their first title since 2005 but the Rattlers at FAMU and the Wildcats of B-CU are striving to knock the Aggies from the throne.
