FAMU Homecoming less than a month away

It’s almost that time of the year when Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University puts together a Homecoming week full of festivities in order to welcome back former students and celebrate the school’s existence. This year the annual Homecoming festivities will be taking place next month during the week of Oct. 1-7. The events are being coordinated by the Student Government Association.

Some of the big events that week are: FAMU’s annual Comedy Show, Pep Rally, Homecoming Concert and Gospel Concert. Every day there will be something exciting going on within the campus boundaries.

The city of Tallahassee will be populated by alumni, friends and family throughout the week.

According to SGA Student Senate President Rochard Moricette, the Comedy Show will be held on Tuesday and will feature popular comedians that will give your chest pain due to so much laughter.

On Wednesday there will be a pep rally held in Gaither Gym which will feature a live performance by the popular hip-hop duo the City Girls. Markasia Byrd, a fourth year occupational therapy student is a fan of the female rappers.

“I listen to them everyday. I will definitely be there singing every song word-for-word,” she said.

The Homecoming Concert on Friday will perhaps be the most anticipated event by students with Gucci Mane headlining the concert. Kodak Black will also be performing live. Early Bird tickets are on sale starting at $30.

Kodak Black was released from jail on Aug. 18 after serving seven months. “I’m excited about Kodak Black performing because he just got out of jail so I wasn’t thinking that he would be able to perform so soon,” said fourth-year criminal justice student Urban Phillips.

Saturday will feature the annual Homecoming football game. The Rattlers will be playing the Norfolk State Spartans.

On Sunday, the Gospel Concert will take place at the Lawson Center with the Walls Group and Fred Hammond. The FAMU Gospel Choir will also be featured in the concert. Tickets are available now with entry for FAMU students starting at $10 with their school ID. General admission is $20.

More details about some of the exciting things that will be happening during the eventful week will be released soon.

“The week’s worth of festivities is loaded with bright spots and highlights that alumni and current students alike will enjoy. We can’t spoil all the surprises so stay tuned for more on Homecoming from the Student Government Association,” Moricette said.
