FAMU hosts advisement day at TCC

FAMU is hosting its once a semester Advisement day at TCC Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in Tallahassee Community College’s Student Union Ballroom.

This is an event that Florida A&M University hosts once a semester to provide potential transfer students with information to assist with their transitions to FAMU.

It is also a recruiting opportunity for the rattlers to persuade TCC students to join the FAMU family.

FAMU is expecting to travel with over 30 staff members, and a few school based organization to assist with the event.

FAMU Academic advisor/Transfer student coordinator Crystal Flowers described the importance of the upcoming event.

“FAMU advisement day at TCC is not only a chance to prepare the potential transfer students, but it also allows us to showcase the social component FAMU has to offer,” Flowers said. “The student to student interaction helps the prospects get a glimpse of what is expected at FAMU.”

There will be table setups specifically for each school the university has to offer. TCC student will be able to visit with staff members in specific departments and get information about their designated school of choice.

For students who are undecided on a major, this gives them an opportunity to compare and gather information to see what school may best suit the students.

TCC academic advisor, and FAMU graduate, Christine Henderson has a personal understanding on how beneficial the advisement day may be for students. She recalls how advisement day help her when she was ready to transfer from TCC.

“I got a chance to connect with the school in a more personal way and get more information about the program I was going into,” Henderson said. “ You can get just about all the information from your TCC advisors but it’s just different when it comes from the FAMU advisors.”

For the FAMU advisors the day begins at 8:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Followed by a meet and greet with the TCC advisors. The staff then   discusses Criteria updates as they set up ballroom for the event.
