CareerSource Capital Region (CSCR) plans to launch its first sector-based Career Connections Hiring Fair Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Tallahassee Community College’s Center for Workforce Development.

This hiring fair will focus on careers within the information technology, professional and financial services fields. The hiring fair is open to the public and offered at no cost to employers and career seekers.

The hiring fair is meant to “strategically connect employers and career seekers” and will feature employers with current job openings for career seekers who are targeting the specified industries.

Approximately 25 employers looking to fill full time, part time or temporary positions in IT, professional and financial services are set to attend. Many employers plan to conduct on-site interviews.

Director of Client Solutions and advancement at Capital Region, Kara Palmer, said the hiring fair will allow career seekers to have access to more specific opportunities.

“We are minimizing the size while maximizing the employer and career seeker connection. Employers will have access to more qualified candidates and career seekers will have access to more sector-specific opportunities,” Palmer said.

Two additional Career Connections hiring fairs are scheduled for April 6, which will feature medical and healthcare sectors, and June 1, which will feature government, public administration and nonprofit sectors.

As of Jan. 22, CSCR CEO Jim McShane announced that Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla county's combined unemployment rate dropped to 4.5 percent in December, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

“A win-win-win is what we want both employers and career seekers to take away from the hiring fair,” Palmer said.

CSCR connects employers with qualified, skilled Floridians with employment and career development opportunities to achieve economic prosperity in Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla counties. Programs funded through CSCR are equal opportunity programs with auxiliary aids and services available upon request to individuals with disabilities.

CSCR is in a partnered sponsorship for the career fair with the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.

In order to participate in the hiring fair, career seekers must be registered in the Employ Florida Marketplace at www.EmployFlorida.com. Professional dress is required, and career seekers should bring several copies of their résumé.
