The school of Journalism and Graphic Communication is ready to launch its annual Grads Are Back: Straight Outta J-school.

This year’s theme is inspired by the box office hit “Straight Outta Compton” executive produced by Famu Alumni Will Packer.

The week-long event Grads Are Back is open to students, faculty, and alumni of the program.

Grads Are Back serves as an opportunity for alumni of the SJGC program to give back to the university by providing learning opportunities and encouragement for current students of the program.

Eric Winkfield is a 2015 graduate of the SJGC program and currently serves as the marketing graduate assistant for West Virginia University's IMC Graduate Program, recently named as Outstanding Online Program for 2015 by the Online Learning Consortium.

“My experiences at FAMU have positioned me to break barriers and achieve excellence in everything that I do. Resulting in me accepting a part-time position with the Preiss Company as a Marketing Communications Coordinator.”

Andre DeVond is a 2014 graduate of the SJGC program and will serve as a guest speaker.

“When I graduated in December 2014 I became a weekend Multimedia journalists for WHIO Channel News in Dayton, Ohio. Now I am a sportswriter for the Dayton daily newspaper covering all sports throughout the Dayton area.”

“This is my first homecoming as an FAMU alum. Just being back surrounded by my FAMUly and getting to see my professors. This is the only time where I can feel like a student again,” DeVond said.

Lexie Mutcherson is the multimedia sales representative for the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication. This will be her first time attending Grads Are Back.

"I look forward to meeting the alumni that I have heard many wonderful things about. I also hope to spread the awareness of how they can help contribute to the program,” Mutcherson said.

Grads Are Back is open to students, faculty, and alumni of the program.

Winkfield said that he is happy to return to FAMU and share his experiences after graduation.

“I count it an honor to be invited come back to my alma matter and share my journey in hopes that I will inspire current students to continue to striving to achieve their goals,” Winkfield said.
