Saturday, Sept. 19, from noon to 3:00 p.m. the Leon County and City of Tallahassee will host its first "Build Your Bucket" event at the Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross, 1115 Easterwood Dr.

The county and the city are committing to helping local residents for September National Preparedness month.

The Event is set up to encourage local residents to come and get tips on what to do during a weather disaster. They will also be able to put together weather kits in order to be prepared before and after a weather emergency.

Melissa West, an Event Coordinator for the "Build Your Bucket" event mentioned that she was "hopeful" of the event.

"We're hopeful that the event is something that will be long term," said West.

The event will have volunteers from the American Red Cross, first responders from Florida State University Public Safety, Police Department, and officials from WeatherSTEM.
