FAMU to use Advising Day for recruiting TCC students

The annual Florida A&M University Advising Day is set to take place on Wednesday, Feb.18, in the Tallahassee Community College Student Union Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

FAMU Advising Day is constructed to send FAMU representatives and faculty advisors to meet with students at TCC to showcase all of what FAMU has to offer as their future home of academia.

This event is being put on by FAMU’s Office of Enrollment Management, Undergraduate Student Success and the Transfer Student Association.

“It’s an opportunity for TCC students to get an understanding of what’s going on at FAMU,” said Crystal Flowers, transfer student coordinator.

The event will have various tables with representatives from different colleges and schools at FAMU to inform students with the many opportunities that the prospective majors offer.

“It would bring a lot of interest to students at TCC, and is an opportunity to give certain information to the students,” said Myron Mebane, Jr., a sophomore sports management student at TCC.

The event will continue to help recruit students to FAMU and keep TCC as FAMU’s No. 1 provider of transfer students.

David Brown, junior psychology student at FAMU from Jacksonville, Fla., said that by being a transfer student, he didn’t get the same love and care that he would have received as an incoming freshman.

Brown is a transfer student from Central Texas College, and now the vice president and founder of the Transfer Student Association on FAMU’s campus.

Brown wants to ensure that students transferring to FAMU have a smooth and enjoyable experience for the remainder of their collegiate career.

“We’re going to pave the way for them,” said  Brown.
