FAMU Formally Introduces Chick-fil-A to Campus

Florida A&M University formally introduced Chick-fil-A to the campus with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Faculty, staff and students gathered in the orange room to officially welcome the largest chicken chain in America to the hill.

Chick-Fil-A Inc. was established in the 1960s. It is credited for inventing the boneless chicken breast sandwich. Chick-fil-A has grown into the largest quick-service chicken restaurant in the U.S, with over 1,850 locations in 41 states.

Among the attendees was FAMU President Elmira Mangum. She explained to the crowd how excited administration was to present this $5 billion revenue company to FAMU’s campus.

“I love Chick-Fil-A. So I was excited to hear that they were coming to FAMU,” Mangum said.

Vice President of Metz Culinary Management Dennis Daley was also excited to have Chick-fil-A at one of their contract schools.

“This is a first for us, in the sense of having our first Chick-fil-A at any of the college campuses that we have the opportunity to manage. This is an exciting time for us and we thank FAMU for sharing this time,” Daley said.

Daley reminded the audience that Chick-fil-A being on campus not only provided students with great tasting food, but it also awarded students with opportunities of employment.

“I was here about 3 weeks ago one evening, and I was just boasting with pride of how your students have joined the Metz team and have done a great job of providing great service,” Daley said.

Sophomore Angel Smith said she enjoys going to Chick-fil-A and seeing familiar faces.

“It’s more personable having the students work here. It also gives students opportunities to earn money without having to leave campus,” Smith said.

Adding Chick-fil-A to campus has opened new doors for FAMU.

Senior political science student Larry Bowden said Chick-fil-A being on campus is a great opportunity for FAMU and Chick-fil-A as a corporation.

“I feel like FAMU just got a piece of heaven. I eat here almost everyday.”

Chick-fil-A Express is located in the Orange Room. It's open Mondays-Thursdays from 11 a.m. until midnight, Fridays from 11a.m. until 6p.m. and Saturdays from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays.
