AD Kellen Winslow makes first move, releases head coach

The first major move of the Kellen Winslow Sr. era has been made.

The new athletic director has decided to part ways with Rattlers men’s head basketball coach Clemon Johnson after just three seasons. Johnson, a former Rattlers legend and NBA player, had one year remaining on his contract.

“We thank Coach Johnson and his staff for their efforts over the past three years to improve our men’s basketball program,” Winslow said. “However, we have decided to seek new leadership of this program in order to achieve our academic and athletic goals.”

No word has been made yet as to who will succeed Johnson. The former Rattlers great had mixed success as head coach, going 32-64 in his time on the bench.

Despite being 32 games under .500, Johnson led the team to a 14-18 record this season and appeared to be turning the program around. But, Winslow and his council have other plans in mind.
