Women’s track team shines at Pepsi Relay

The Florida A&M women’s track team were a force to be reckoned with in the 69th edition of the Pepsi Florida Relays at the University of Florida.

Senior Nakia Linson led the way, capping off a successful outing at the Florida Relays after recently making the NCAA Track & Field Championships. Linson placed in the top 25 in all of her events: seventh in the long jump (6 meters), 15th in the 100-meter dash (11.61 seconds) and 21st in the 200-meter dash (23.67 seconds).

Junior Sasha-Ann Lebert placed 13th in women’s shot put and 20th in the women’s discus with throws of 13.59 m and 41.84 m, respectively.

The women’s 4×800 meter relay team placed seventh with a time of 9 minutes, 8.54 seconds, and the women’s 4×100 meter relay team placed 15th, finishing in 45.45 seconds.

Sophomores Effiey Kosgei and Cythia Chelelgo were top performers for the women’s team in distance events. They teamed up in the women’s 3000-meter run. Kosgei ran a time of 11:22.05, finishing 17th, while Chelelgo finished in 12:00.89, placing 23rd.

Sophomore Jaymee Smith also placed 23rd, throwing the javelin 38.02 m.

The Lady Rattlers will now prepare for the Seminole Invitational on Saturday.
