Lady Rattlers sweep HBCU Classic

The Lady Rattlers softball team is now 5-9 after sweeping through its four games this weekend in the seventh annual Tiny Laster HBCU Classic in Irondale, Ala.

The Lady Rattlers opened up against the Grambling State University Lady Tigers with a 5-2 win.

Later that day, the team cruised to victory against the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs, 6-0. The Lady Rattlers pitching was superb, only allowing five hits in 26 at-bats.

The third and fourth games for the Lady Ratters came against Mississippi Valley State Devilettes and Alabama State University Lady Hornets. The Lady Rattlers took care of Mississippi Valley State in dominating fashion, 8-0. Then they beat Alabama State in a 12-11 thriller.

Alabama State committed five errors but had 19 hits in a losing effort.

Home runs by freshman catcher Denise Anderson and freshman infielder Amber Fullwood led the Lady Rattlers to victory. Their next game is March 11 against the Northern Kentucky Lady Norse on Tuesday Mach 11.
