Rattlers beat Bethune, extend win streak

The men’s basketball team defeated the Bethune-Cookman University Wildcats on Saturday, 80-75.

The Rattlers (11-16, 7-7 MEAC) trailed by six at the end of the first half but took control in the second, where they outscored the Wildcats (6-23, 4-10 MEAC), 52-42.

Both teams shot 43 percent from the field before the percentages picked up from the 3-point line with Florida A&M shooting 47 percent and B-CU shooting 50.

Senior guards Jamie Adams and Reggie Lewis combined for 46 points for the Rattlers. Sophomore forward Trey Kellum posted a double-double, putting up 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Wildcats junior guard Mikel Trapp, who came into the contest averaging 12 points per game, scored 26 points in his 40 minutes of play. Trapp shot five of seven from the 3-point line and grabbed eight rebounds as well.

The Rattlers are currently on a three-game win streak as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference approaches.

The Rattlers will look to extend the streak to four Wednesday against Edward Waters College at the Al Lawson Center.
