Pups to dress up for ‘Dog-O-Ween’

Star 98.9 will be hosting the 26th annual Dog-O-Ween celebration Sunday at Tom Brown Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Tallahassee-area dogs are invited to come dressed in unique costumes for judging.

Esteffania Najera, the marketing and promotions director for Cumulus Media, said this event puts a unique spin on costume contests.

“You’ve heard of costume contests and of course you’ve heard of being in the spirit of Halloween, but how many times have you heard of a dog costume contest,” Najera said.

This year’s event will be filled with family and dog interaction, music and food from local vendors.

For the first time ever, Dog-O-Ween will also have live entertainment from Jacobs Ladder. The star 98.9 crew and on-air personalities will be there to enjoy the festivities and interact with listeners.

Alison Roper, a second-year general studies student from Miami at Tallahassee Community College, said she cannot wait to take her Labrador, Coco, out to the park.

“I went last year and me and Coco had a blast,” Roper said.

Dogs will compete for a $100 first place prize, $75 for second place and $50 for third place. All dogs must have proof of vaccinations before entering the contest. They also must pay a $10 cover charge to participate. Registration will take place at 11 a.m.
