Lady Rattlers fare well at FSU Relays

 

The Lady Rattlers track and field team finished with 14 top-10 performances at the Florida State University Relays this weekend, which was cut short Saturday due to weather conditions.

Four athletes placed top-10 in multiple events.

The 4×100 relay team of freshman Ashely Ivey, junior Nakia Linson, sophomore Jasmine Smith and senior Dynasty Jones ran a time of 45.47 seconds – second to Clemson University, which completed the race in 43.95 seconds.

Senior Stephanie Colter tied for third in the high jump, clearing 1.53 meters (5-00.25).

Sophomore Sasha-Ann Lebert threw her discus 40.23 meters (132-00), finishing fourth in the event.

Linson also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.10 seconds and fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.82 meters (19-01.25).

Senior Kinnesha Jones, who jumped 12.08 meters (39-07.75) in the triple jump, placed fourth.

Ivey placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.35 seconds.

Smith placed seventh in the 200, finishing in 24.30 seconds. Jones tied for eighth in the same event with a time of 24.36 and also placed eighth in the 400-meter dash in 54.70. Sophomore Rateema Stanley placed ninth in the 400 in 55.25 seconds.

Freshman distance runners Effiey Kosgei and Cynthia Chelelgo finished ninth and 10th respectively in the 5,000-meter run. Kosgei finished in 18 minutes and 56.13 seconds, while Chelelgo ran a time of 18:57.56.

The Lady Rattlers will next compete in Gainesville, Fla., at the Florida Relays on April 5.
