Lady Rattlers struggle from field in B-CU loss

The Lady Rattlers basketball team fell to the Bethune-Cookman University Lady Wildcats 59-49 on Saturday in Daytona Beach.

The Lady Rattlers (8-13, 5-3 MEAC) had another slow start and struggled from the field, shooting only 34 percent from the field on 52 shot attempts.

“We just came out flat, said head coach LeDawn Gibson. It’s been inconsistent all season dealing with a very immature team court-time wise.

The Lady Rattlers trailed 21-25 at halftime. However, an 11-4 run by the Lady Wildcats (10-10, 5-3 MEAC) to begin the second half put the game out of reach.

FAMU pulled within four points with 9:56 remaining in the game after a 10-3 run, but that was as close as the Lady Rattlers would get. B-CU responded with a 20-13 run to end the game.

Jasmine Grice, a junior guard from Quincy, led the Lady Rattlers with 21 points and nine rebounds. Jamie Forman, a sophomore post player from Beach Island, S.C., finished the game with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

The Lady Rattlers return to action Saturday to play the North Carolina Central Lady Eagles at 2 p.m. in Durham, N.C.
