Roast and toast to be held in honor of Humphries

Former Florida A&M President Frederick S. Humphries used his “Excellence with Caring” motto to more than double the university’s enrollment by focusing on high-achieving, quality students.

Under his presidency from 1985 to 2001, FAMU led the nation with the highest number of National Achievement Scholars, tying  Harvard in 2000. So how is FAMU celebrating its eighth president? By honoring him at the Leon County Alumni Chapter’s 9th Annual Roast and Toast Scholarship Gala.

Humphries will be honored this Friday at 7 p.m. at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.

A roast and toast is an event where the honoree is humorously teased and celebrated by those who know him or her best.

The Roast and Toast is also a fundraiser for the alumni chapter’s V.L. Elkins Scholarship Program, which awards incoming FAMU freshmen from Leon County. Some of the proceeds will also be donated to FAMU. Tickets are $75 each, but a table for eight can be purchased for $600.
