New food choices on campus

The anticipation is over. Tropical Smoothie has finally made it to The Hill. That along with the expansion of WOW Wingery to the Orange Room means more food options for students.

The new Sodexo management team has been responding to the concerns of the student body by providing quality service and new venues.

“As a former graduate and now an employee of Sodexo, I’m happy to see that Sodexo has provided service to students that were promised in the past,” said Chafeeza Bain, Sodexo’s marketing manager. “Sodexo is now under a new management team on the campus of FAMU. We are continuing to ensure that quality service is provided to every Rattler.”

Tropical Smoothie was originally scheduled to open in fall 2011. However, students, staff and faculty can now enjoy fresh food and real fruit smoothies, offered in the bottom cafe next to Pizza Hut.

“I can already see a difference in our food services,” said Shanize Byrd, a third-year psychology student from Hollywood, Fla. “The employees are more efficient and organized. I love that we finally have Tropical Smoothie on campus to provide a healthier food choice on campus.”

Goodbye 155 Degree Connection and hello WOW Wingery, which is now offered in the Orange Room along with Magic Johnson Sub Connection.  The Orange Room is now equipped with a Coca-Cola Freestyle drink machine, which has 150 flavors to quench your thirst.

“We are here to take food service to another level,” said Sanford Winfield, general manager of Campus Dining Services. “WOW Wingery is now offered at the central part of campus, and the menu is also offering breakfast to broaden the menu.

Isaiah Petty, a senior molecular biology student from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., said, “WOW Wingery is a great addition to the Orange Room. Even though the wait is long, the on-site paging gives you a sense of reliability. Rattler’s Nest is also getting interior renovations and a menu upgrade, which will be completed by December 2012. Sodexo also has a new independent cashier system called “Holo.”

The new team is making sure policies and procedures are enforced.

“Our goal is to provide students and faculty with what they want, where they want it and when they want it,” Winfield said .

The food court is open from 11 a.m  to 10 p.m. The Orange Room is open from 8 a.m. to  midnight. Rattler’s Nest is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
