Trustees Agree to Ammons’ Immediate Resignation

Florida A&M President James Ammons‘ resignation is effective today, July 16, 2012. The university’s Board of Trustees unanimously agreed this morning to accept Ammons‘ resigning immediately.

Ammons and Board of Trustees Chairman Solomon Badger agreed last night to a quick “transitioning out” that means he would give up his post at the top of the university and take outstanding bonuses on his way out, waiving the 90-day contractual requirement. In a letter to Badger last Wednesday, Ammons said he planned to make his resignation effective Oct. 11, 2012.

His sudden departure sparked much controversy last week.
