Former Florida A&M swimmer Steven Stevens II died recently in a battle in Afghanistan, according to the university’s website. He was married with a young son.
Stevens swam middle/long distances for the university until he joined the military. He was a private first class in the U.S. Marines.
FAMU Athletic Director Derek Horne was quoted as saying: “Because of Stevens’ competitive spirit and athleticism, we know that he was the perfect fit for our U.S. Marines and we are very proud of him. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Monique, son Kairo and his entire family.”
