Young musicians jazzed up the Florida A&M Developmental Research School cafeteria Thursday for the second-annual DRS Band Extravaganza, a showcase of the best that the school’s band program has to offer.
They took the audience through different genres and musical eras:One minute, it was a classic overture and then a folk song. The next, it was a Maze/Frankie Beverly’s “Joy & Pain” and a medley of Stevie Wonder songs.
DRS also honored music legends Julian White, FAMU professor of music and director of bands, and Marvin Henderson, former superintendent, for their role in reviving and invigorating the band program.
