WANM FM Celebrates 36 Years

The Voice of Florida A&M is celebrating 36 years of “flava.” WANM 90.5 FM is hosting its 36th Annual WANM Week. The station invited all Rattlers, new and old, back to the “Hill” to join the celebration.

“The purpose of WANM 90.5 Week is to bring more notoriety to our station and show our loyal listeners how much we greatly appreciate them,” said 90.5 Sales & Promotion Manager Sherwood Brown Jr.

Activities started with the weekend’s “Be Out Day” celebration.

Monday,WANM will have an open house followed by a reception for past underwriters to enjoy food while touring the radio station.

Guests will also have an opportunity to meet the DJs. The university will also celebrate the grand opening of FAMU’s pool from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The celebration continues Tuesday at Tallahassee’s new hotspot, Coliseum Nightclub, for 90.5’s own DJ Dawkness’ birthday bash.

Wednesday will feature old-school music from 6-9 p.m. in the Rattler’s Den. 90.5 will also host the Bowling ’80s vs. ’90s Jam, a contest between students born in the respective decades.

On Thursday the station will welcome Rihanna, Drake and Chris Brown for Fake the Funk in Lee Hall, sponsored by the Michigan Club.

The station will host a cookout on the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication lawn Friday from noon to 3 p.m.

The celebration continues Saturday with a pool party with Yep We Kan at The Park at Midtown, followed by a gospel concert at Philadelphia Primitive Baptist Church at 5p.m.
