Dismissed Marching “100” Students Revealed

After the death of Florida A&M drum major Robert Champion, four students have been dismissed from the university.

Head Drum Major Jonathan Boyce, a 24-year-old senior from Marietta, Ga., along with fellow drum majors Shawn Turner, 25, from Atlanta and Rikki Willis, 23, from Miami, were all dismissed by the university. The Famuan was unable to confirm the name of the fourth student.

University Spokeswoman Sharon Saunders said that the university is unable to officially release any names by law.

“The University did not release these names and cannot confirm or deny that these were the students dismissed.  The University is prohibited from releasing these names pursuant to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).”

After the death of student and drum major Robert Champion, Ammons suspended all band performances and said he will create a task force “to determine if there are any unauthorized activities associated with the culture of the Marching 100.”

“I want to report that four students have been dismissed from the University in connection to the Robert Champion incident,” President James Ammons said in a memo to the Board of Trustees on Tuesday.
