Major Leaguer Visits for ‘SMART’ Talk on Dec. 1

Heavy-hitter Willie Harris will make his way to “the Hill” with the help of a group of determined students. The on-campus organization, Students Marketing and Advertising with Real Talent (S.M.A.R.T.), will host a forum with the New York Mets outfielder and second baseman on Thursday.

The S.M.A.R.T. forum aims to highlight a professional who has reached a level of success in any particular career field.

Sidnie Patterson, 21, a fourth-year business administration student from Tampa and president of S.M.A.R.T. said the Cairo, Ga., native will share his personal experiences while informing students about the Major League baseball industry in general.

S.M.A.R.T. is an organization that provides opportunities for students to achieve ambitious marketing and advertising goals and strategic communication objectives while improving the quality of the community.

Company treasurer Alexis Brown, a 21-year-old business administration student from Eagan, Minn., said through hard work and planning the forum is expected to be a success.

“It’s a great opportunity for the community to see a unique event come to the Hill and also provide S.M.A.R.T members with the chance to take the marketing techniques learned in class and apply them to the real world,” said Brown.

“A S.M.A.R.T Start to Your Future Featuring NY Mets and World Series Winner Willie Harris” will be in the School of Business and Industry, North Building, room G12 at 7 p.m. Harris will also be taking pictures and signing autographs.

Tickets are $10 for students and $15 for faculty and adults. The funds generated from this event will help S.M.A.R.T. send students to the Minor League Baseball Winter Meetings in December. For tickets and additional information call, Sidnie Patterson or Alexis Brown 813-842-1142 or 404-926-6344.
