Cops Arrest Suspect in Lasaki Killing

A young man remains in custody Wednesday after Tallahassee police arrested him in connection with the death of a Florida A & M student last week.

Brandon Wells was held during a traffic stop about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after “he failed to stop for a stop sign,” according to a news release posted on the Tallahassee Police Department website Wednesday.

Rasheed Lasaki, 25, was shot at Greystone Place Apartments, 2614 Jackson Bluff Road, Monday, Jan. 17.

He died at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital later that night.

Surveillance video from a convenience store showed a suspect vehicle, police said.

“Investigators continued to examine physical evidence and witness statements, eventually leading them to identify” Wells as the suspect in the homicide, the release said.

He failed to stop at a sign at the intersection of Devra and Scenic Drives.

Friends and family honored Lasaki, a senior criminology student, at a candlelight vigil Tuesday morning. They remembered him as a determined, generous and inspiring.

Arrested:

Brandon G. Wells, B/M, 5-31-89 Charges: Homicide, and Operating a Vehicle Without a License.
