Search for VP of student affairs almost over

The selection process for vice president of student affairs is almost complete.

The three finalists, which originally began with 80 applicants, have all visited campus and met with the student body. So now many are wondering what’s next?

According to Sylvia Petties, executive assistant to vice president of student affairs, President James Ammons has already interviewed Cherese Peters, associate vice president of enrollment services at Georgia State University.

Acting Dean of Students Henry Kirby’s interview will be today and Timothy Beard, vice president of Student Development and Enrollment Management at Pasco-Hernando Community College, interview date has not been confirmed.

“At this point it’s the president’s decision on who gets the job,” said Petties. “The committee did their job, which was to recommend to the President their choice.”

Even though Ammons will have the final say, Petties believes he will take in consideration the committee’s recommendations.

Whoever is chosen by the president to be VP of Student Affairs will be in charge of campus recreation, financial aid, department of public safety, the holistic development of FAMU students through the delivery of innovative programs and services which are responsive to the needs of students, addressing emerging policy issues, and fostering community-building, according to famu.edu.
