Democrats lose big

 

It was a long night for Democrats in Florida, as Republican Marco Rubio defeated Democrat Kendrick Meek and Independent Charlie Crist for the U.S. Senate seat. 

 

Among other statewide races, Republican Pam Bondi won the race for attorney general. Jeff Atwater won for chief financial officer and Adam H Putnam, also Republican, won for agricultural commissioner. 

 

Results from the governor’s race between Democrat Alex Sink and Republican Rick Scott have  still not been decided. In Congress, Republican Steve Southerland defeated incumbent Allen Boyd, D-2. Republican Ander Crenshaw won the Congressional seat for district four.

 

Nationally, Republicans were expected to take control of the U.S. House of Representatives, while Democrats were fighting to maintain control of the Senate. 

 

According to the Supervisor of Elections, Ion Sancho,  100,543 people voted in Leon County, which represented a turnout of 59.73 percent.

 

In Florida elections, Amendment four was decisively shut down, as was amendment eight.
