FAMU homecoming festivities come to a close

Hotels around Tallahassee were booked nearly to capacity as Florida A&M’s homecoming festivities took place last week.

30,459 students, alumni, family and friends packed into Bragg stadium Saturday for the football game. The Marching “100,” accompanied by alumni band members, performed a halftime tribute to William Foster, which spilled into the second half. The third quarter may have started, but the “100” could not be moved. The resulting delay of game penalties were not enough to derail FAMU, as the Rattlers went on to best the Bears 31-17.

The homecoming comedy/talent show was held Monday night, hosted by R&B artist Chrisette Michele.

The dorm and Greek step shows wowed crowds. The contests saw Paddyfote victorious in the dorm step show, as well as Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority in the Greek step show.

The “Delta’s” show was unique in its use of marching band themes.

Coronation for the FAMU Royal Court was Thursday night in the Grand Ballroom. Joseph Agboola and Kindall “Sunshine” Johnson were sworn in as Mr. and Mrs. FAMU in the official ceremony.

That night was the Homecoming concert, featuring Musiq Soulchild and Charlie Wilson.
