Designer Alexander McQueen dies at 40

Known for his extravagant runway shows and unique designs, British fashion designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London home Thursday.

He recently posted disturbing online remarks about the death of his mother.

The circumstances surrounding McQueen’s death pointed to a possible suicide, but there was no confirmation from police or his publicists.

Authorities said the death was not suspicious, apparently ruling out foul play.

They did not indicate how McQueen was discovered. His family issued a statement asking for privacy. Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour called McQueen “one of the greatest talents of his generation.”

News of his death broke at the beginning of New York Fashion Week and quickly spread throughout Bryant Park. McQueen’s secondary label, McQ, had been scheduled to premier later Thursday, but it was quickly cancelled.
