Shooting leaves one dead, five wounded

A 26-year-old Tallahassee man was shot dead and five others wounded after gunshots were fired early Sunday morning in the parking lot of the Circle K/McDonald’s on Lake Bradford Road.

The store is less than a mile and a half from the Florida A&M University campus, accroding to a press release from the Tallahassee Police Department.   

The dead man was identified as Curtis Brown, whose body was found laying in the parking lot.

Four men and one youth, ages, 33, 22, 21, 18 and 15, suffered gunshot wounds.

They were taken to area hospitals and all are expected to recover, according a Leon County Sheriff Office’s report.

The names of those wounded were not released.

It was unclear late Sunday if any of the injured were FAMU students.

“This senseless killing and gun violence will not be tolerated in our community,” Sheriff Larry Campbell said. “The Leon County Sheriff’s Office has committed its full resources to identify and bring to justice the person, or persons, responsible for this morning’s carnage.”

According to the Sheriff’s Office, around 4:20 a.m. Sunday, Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Wilkinson was on patrol in the area of Airport Drive and Epps Street when he heard eight gunshots coming from Lake Bradford Road.

When Wilkinson arrived on the scene, he said he saw about 150 people running in a panic from the parking lot of the McDonaldsCircle K located at 811 Lake Bradford, a popular after hours hang out spot for young people.

Wilkinson discovered Curtis’ body in the front parking lot and learned that another man had been wounded by a gunshot.
