Holiday parade fiasco takes fun out of event

In recent news the Associated Press reported that seven people were injured in a shooting that occurred along the New Orleans’ main parade route, ruining what had been a picture perfect day with great weather and large crowds.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon along St. Charles Avenue while some of the parade floats were passing.

Two men were shot in the abdomen while four others suffered wounds and shots to the leg and arm, as the crowd was sprayed with bullets.

According to Major Kirk Bouyelas of the NOPD, the injuries were not life threatening.

Although many victims remain alive they are left in critical condition, including a one-year-old boy who suffered a wound to the back; a 17-year-old girl who was shot in the thigh; a 50-year-old woman who was shot to the right elbow; a 15-year-old young man with an unspecified wound and a 30-year-old man who suffered a wound to the thigh according to cnn.com.

This is an unfortunate event; Mardi Gras in New Orleans is supposed to be a time of celebration. People didn’t have to bring violence to a place like this.

But, it is also hard to believe that something like this wouldn’t occur.

So many people come to New Orleans for Mardi Gras and not every one is a saint but, it is upsetting to see a baby hurt.

It is upsetting to see this many people injured at this event. Perhaps if they had tighter security this would not have happened.

Maybe this incident will make Mardi Gras less popular. If the population of the people who come to the event were smaller less violence would occur.
