Religious concert set to amaze

The Northwood Baptist Church will be hosting a free demo release concert for The Musical Affirmation of Christ, a gospel ensemble, this upcoming Friday.

The group plans on releasing their album entitled “It Was You” and said they are looking forward to people attending the event.

The Musical Affirmation of Christ has been together for three years and consists of ten members, including three altos, three tenors, three sopranos and a musician.

Members of the group include students at Florida A&M University, Florida State University, the University of North Florida and Florida Memorial University.

Thaddeus Biglow, a member of the group said The Musical Affirmation of Christ is devout in serving God.

“We want to let people know that there are young people out here serving God,” said Biglow, a student at Florida Memorial University. “We do a concert every semester at FAMU.”

Biglow, who has been in the group for two years, said the group receives invitations to perform at various events.

Gary Tookes founded The Musical Affirmation of Christ in 2005 with the hope of gaining exposure on a national level. The group performs popular gospel songs, but this venue will be used to showcase their original material.

The ensemble primarily performs throughout Florida. They have taken the stage in cities such as Jacksonville, Miami, Lake Butler and Gainesville. Since this is a student group, most of the traveling is done during the summer.

Tookes said he wants everyone with a love for Gospel to come to Friday’s concert.

“Come out and support a young group that is on the move for Jesus Christ,” Tookes said.

The ensemble said they have goals of making it to the Gospel Music Workshop of America, where upcoming gospel artists can shine and showcase their talent.

Tookes said that all FAMU students, regardless of religion, are urged to check out the concert.

Danielle Joyner is of the same opinion. Joyner, who serves as the group’s president, said the concert should be very entertaining.

“Our ultimate goal is to save souls and praise the glory of God,” Joyner said.

Also performing at the concert is Intimate Worship, a group headed by Jamal Jones and comprised of several FAMU students.

FAMU graduate and member of Love and Faith Ministries, Tiana Kelly, will also be performing. She was a member of the now disbanded group, Soulful.

In addition, the FAMU Gospel Concert will be in attendance.

Doors are scheduled to open at 6:30 p.m. with praise and worship beginning at 7 p.m. The church is located at 3762 Capital Circle N.W.
