Stay trendy while frequenting clubs

Rattlers, it’s time to party!

The Atlanta Classic is rapidly approaching and students are making plans about what to wear for the weekend getaway.

Relax and take a deep breath. There are some fashion tips that may grant VIP status and have you looking like a fashion icon. Without the restrictive eye of professors and employers, the nightlife dress code is when personality hits its peak, but there are still some guidelines to follow.

According to Stephanie Sims, fashion writer for clubplanet.com, a night-lifestyle website, when spending a night out on the town, ladies should try to remain sexy and chic.

“Show skin if you’re a girl,” Sims said. “Skin definitely gets attention, but don’t show all your assets at once, unless you want to look like you’re a good time girl ready for more. Remember, leaving something to the imagination never hurt.”

Ladies, anything that accentuates the features is always a perfect choice to party in. Heels and a clutch are a must.

When wearing jewelry be simple. Less is more.

“Don’t wear layers upon layers of necklaces and bracelets,” Sims said. “Necklaces if you’re wearing a cleavage-bearing top, bracelets if you’re trying to emphasize your legs.”

Gentlemen, depending on the club, don’t “thug it out” in the typical baggy jeans, oversized shirt and fitted hat. When going out, polish up personal style by wearing clothes that fit, then accessorize accordingly. Guys, there is a difference between wearing clothes that are too tight or small and wearing clothes that fit.

Daniel Billett, a men’s fashion writer for About.com, said it is important to pick clothes that go with specific body types.

“Choose clothes that fit your body,” said Billett. “This might take some experimentation by mixing and matching certain cuts and styles until you find the right fit for your body that is flattering.”

Men, the urban rock star look is still a popular trend. Tattoo shirts such as Affliction, Black Labels and Ed Hardy are brands that will easily help you achieve the rock star look. To urbanize the shirt, wear high quality jeans with a pair of nice shoes, like Nike Dunks. Accessorize with a fitted hat, a nice watch and a simple chain. Keep accessories simple because the shirt and shoes will make a statement by itself.

Also, keep in mind it is important to differentiate your styles of dress accordingly. For example, a night out at the Moon on College Wednesdays may allow for a different style of dress than that of Saturday, which attracts a 21 and over crowd.

Dressing to the club’s decorum will help to avoid wardrobe displacement or fashion depression. This can easily take place if you are the only one in jeans and flip flops at a jazz concert or upscale club. So, just be mindful of the event when dressing.

Be trendy, chic and sexy for the weekend. In the words of iconic fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, “Fashions fade, style is eternal.”
