Debra Clark released as women’s basketball coach

Athletic Director Bill Hayes announced that the contract of women’s basketball coach Debra Clark has not been renewed.

According to the official press release, athletic officials said a commission will soon be assembled to search for a replacement.

In the release, Hayes thanked Clark for her work.

“We truly wish to express our appreciation to Coach Debra Clark and her staff for their service to the university for the past seven season,” Hayes said. “However, after a thorough evaluation of the program, the decision was made to pursue a different course.”

Clark has coached the team for seven years and players have said they have formed a bond with her. Stephanie Foster, a forward and guard, said the news was disheartening.

“This is very unfortunate after building a relationship with Coach Clark over the years,” said Foster, 20, a broadcast journalism student. “It’s like starting all over. They [the Clarks] will truly be missed.”

The Lady Rattlers began the last season with a strong start, but finished 14-17 overall. The FAMUAN will follow the story as updates become available.
