Weeding out bad seeds beneficial

Is it possible for the Ku Klux Klan to permeate the sports world? Well according to FBI officials, the question has become increasingly valid.

A recent article in Sports Illustrated said the FBI is questioning neighbors and family members of umpires about their background.

One of the questions was about the umpires’ possible affiliation with the KKK.

In the last year referees have come under extreme scrutiny for their actions, both on and off the field. NBA referee Tim Donaghy was caught betting on games.

The FBI has also launched an investigation on the MLB to ensure similar corruption in the league didn’t exist. But is the FBI going far enough?

With the scandals that have been going on in the MLB with steroids, they should do background checks on everyone, not just the umpires. If you investigate the umpires, team owners should be questioned, as well as coaches.

Some of these umpires say the FBI is going too far and affecting their reputations, as well as the sport as a whole.

The FBI questioning umpires is only fair. The only way the MLB can be scandal-free is by fishing out the wrongdoers.

If the issues in sports are not resolved, more scandals will exist.

NBA fans would be wasting money going to basketball games not knowing the outcome was already decided.

These investigations may be tough, but they are necessary.
