Starbucks stirs up frenzy

Students all over Tallahassee are indulging in what AOL Money and Finance’s Web site considers the “golden standard of coffee shops,” Starbucks.

With the opening of a new location on Ocala Road, in the Publix plaza, Starbucks now has four operating stores.

“They are everywhere now,” said Christina Richards, a 21-year-old Florida State finance student from Fort Lauderdale. “The drive-thru is convenient during busy test weeks.”

When Starbucks was established, the company’s only location was in Seattle.. There are now more than 6,000 operating stores in 30 countries.

Expanding locations resulted in expanding menus, which includes everything from mochas, frappuccinos, lattes, and cappuccinos to teas, juices and baked goods. They offer festive drinks as well to celebrate each season. Its current concoction, made especially for fall, is the pumpkin spice latte. Aside from their menu they offer gift items and more recently, music.

Many of Starbucks’ specialty drinks may be considered high calorie treats but there are plenty of options to customize your beverage.

Starbucks offers healthier substitutions such as organic or soymilk, as well as sugar free syrup, or sugar substitutes like Splenda or Equal.

The coffee giant also offers a variety of international coffee for personal purchase and they emphasize the importance of buying Fair Trade products.

Not a coffee drinker? Several varieties of juices and teas are also available.

“I’m more into fruity drinks,” said Tim Schalch, 21, a business administration student from Sarasota. “I don’t really think the caffeinated drinks are healthy but I enjoy their frozen desert drinks like the cookies and cream.”

Strawberries and Crème and Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino, are just a few of the tasty dessert drinks Starbucks offers. Now with four locations, it’s hard not to find one in your area.
