Ammons keeps his “light” on

He is a president for the people.

We are not talking about President Bush or the people of America.

Florida A&M University president James Ammons is for the people, especially FAMU students.

We felt compelled to let students, faculty and administration know about a recent press conference in which Ammons was present. The press conference was to announce the new FAMU men’s basketball coach, Eugene Harris.

The Famuan is always interviewing faculty, staff and administration. We usually have to beg and plead to get to them, but not with Ammons.

As Ammons exited the press conference in a hurry, we stepped in his path and told him we needed a few comments from him. As we asked Ammons questions, his crew continued to push him along, but then he said something that sparked this editorial.

He stated that he didn’t want to talk to anyone before he spoke to FAMU student media.

Right then he put FAMU student media over all other media in Tallahassee.

We have an even better view of Ammons than we did before.

The first time we interviewed Ammons he was also overly willing to speak with us. He has been in the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication more times than we can count. And it is not because he has to but because he wants to. Ammons has said many times he wants to reach out to the students.

It is nice to know that our president is all about FAMU.
