Pastor’s drug scandal changes perception

OK, has the nation gone mad?

So many people think all drug dealers and users are cracked-out losers who will never make something of themselves, right? These people are the low down scum that we think are wasting their lives away on something that will eventually rob them of their youth, right?

Wrong.

Let it be known that the pastor can now be added to the list of your neighborhood drug users.

But how is this possible you say?

If you haven’t heard, a Colorado pastor is now being charged with buying, with the intent to use, methamphetamine from a gay prostitute who claimed the former head of the National Association of Evangelical paid for the drugs.

“I bought it for myself but never used it. I was tempted, but I never used it,” the pastor said. But he should have known better.

As a pastor, men and women should know people look up to them on a daily basis. And although pastors are human beings and humans make mistakes, they should be more mindful of their actions.

As the spiritual leader to millions, he Rev. Ted Haggard should have been mindful that his actions would not only negatively affect his congregation, they would also affect spiritual believers everywhere.

At a time when it seems as though the nation is falling apart and everyone has gone crazy, this is just another scandal that will tarnish America’s view of holy men and women.

After all, didn’t the pastor get the talk too? “Just say no.” Katrelle Simmons for the Editorial Board.
