Committee unveils new plan to enhance student growth

During Monday’s 36th Student Senate meeting, questions arose regarding a new plan for reaccreditation proposed by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools committee.

The committee is looking for new ways to enhance student growth mentally, verbally and socially, said Timothy Wise, SACS representative.

“FAMU is going through a reaccreditation, what we like to call a reaffirmation since we are already accredited,” said Wise, who spoke on behalf of the SACS committee and Quality Enhancement Program team. The plan derived from a series of proposals issued by the SACS committee.

“The goal of accreditation, to put it simply, is to assure the public that the university is providing indeed a quality of higher education,” Wise said.

The proposed plan contains three distinct developmental features, which include resource ceremonies to inform freshman of opportunities available on campus; efficient writing, reading and speaking to produce stronger and more prolific writers; and education through community involvement, to keep Florida A&M University’s standard of excellence with caring.
